ABOUT THE MARKET
The Ilderton Village is surrounded by agricultural land, yet minutes from the city of London. This makes the Ilderton Farmers Market the ideal setting for the meeting of urban with rural. It's a place where local farmers set up stalls on Saturday mornings to sell their fruits, vegetables, meats, cheese, and wines, and patrons chat over pastries and coffees while enjoying some live music.
This year, the market will host 15 full-time vendors and 10 occasional vendors, all grouped around a large seating area with musicians performing each week and a play area for children. You can buy beef from the farmer who raised the cow and vegetables from the farmer who grew them from seed. You can sample wines from Alton Farms Estate Winery, the premier winery in Ontario's emerging wine region of Huron Shores, and enjoy a taco from the Black Sombrero that is made with "Canada's Best Guacamole" (as voted by John Catucci of the Food Network's "You Gotta Eat Here!") You'll also find a wide assortment of baked goods, jams & Preserves, fresh-cut flowers, handmade soaps & artisan wares.
The farmers market is a not-for-profit venture hosted by the Ilderton Area Business Association and run entirely by volunteers. It began in 2012 as a way to support the relationship between the community and local producers, to enhance access and awareness of local fresh food, and to provide a social gathering place within the business district of the village. With the growing awareness of the benefits of locally grown food and its charm as a social venue where friends and neighbours gather, the market has grown in both size and popularity every year since!
